Summer, the Computer will only copy up to 3GB, at the FAT32 Format on the Flash Drive,
The drive was purchased in March 2017. It was loaded with files but not to Maximum capacity, there was room to add more files.
In October 2017 the drive was having data integrity issues, files on the drive could not be found.
I saved everything to my hard drive and reformatted the PNY 64 gig to exFat. At that point the drive failed with a "CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES" error.
When the disk attribute "Read-Only" = "No" the disk is still in a "CURRENT READ-ONLY STATE: YES".
"Diskpart" did not resolve the issue.
The disk cannot be written to.
WOW this thing is slow
I purchased this to use on a raspberry pi - so I was not that concerned about the speed, but when plugging into windows 10 and trying for quick format it it takes about a minute before the process actually starts
Also takes at least a minute for the device to be recognized when you plug it in
saving files to it via download is also painfully slow
Copying files to it was like being on a dial up modem in 1982- I was getting about 128k transfers (OK probably faster than a 300 baud modem - but you get the point)
this is going back
BEWARE! Despite generally good reviews, the product I received was junk and I returned it. I don't know if it was a bad batch or lack of quality control. I ordered two of the 16GB models. I'm an IT consultant and I buy a LOT of inexpensive (< $10) 16 - 32GB flash drives to use for client backups and for making Recovery Drives on new Windows installs. I buy drives made by Lexar, PNY and Kingston all the time. I'm not expecting a high-end product, since these are budget prices, but I expect the drive to at least work reliably.
There was something very wrong with these two drives I received. Right off the bat, they took up to a minute to be recognized by Windows - not just the first time, which is understandable, but EVERYTIME. This indicates to me that that Windows is having trouble querying the drive, which means that the drive's firmware is defective, or it's slow to respond due to inferior quality or defective NAND memory chips or controller logic.
On top of that, when I benchmarked these drives using HDTach they ran at a miserable 12 MB/s on the quick read test. Cheap, budget 16GB flash drives I've bought many times previously can usually reach at least 20 MB/s, again indicating inferior quality.
For $5.99 I nearly just threw them in the trash, assuming I'd have to pay shipping, but ultimately I decided to apply for a return and refund. I was happy to find out that the return process on Amazon is simple (despite buying from Amazon for years, I've never had to return anything before) AND they pay for return shipping (you can print a pre-paid UPS label).
I plan on buying a few more drives to replace this, needless to say they wont be PNY brand anymore
The write speeds on this are attrocious. I know it's USB 2.0, but that doesn't mean I should have to settle for sub-4MBps transfer rates. Copying a 6.8GB video took 30 minutes. It's faster to set up an ad-hoc WiFi network and send the file that way. If you're planning on copying 100+GB to this thing, be prepared to wait a long, long time. I am not impressed with this drive and I would not recommend it. Two stars because it does work and the data does transfer, even though the write speeds are terrible. Read speeds seem to be about 26MBps. If you have to spend a few more bucks to get a different, faster drive, I don't think you'd regret it.
Update: With an NTFS partition, using Paragon NTFS on my 2012 Macbook Pro, I copied a 10.12GB file and it took ~37.5 minutes. That's ~4.5MBps. That's awful. At that rate, it would take over 7.5hrs to fill up this 128GB drive with similarly sized files. I was so annoyed with this drive, I decided to purchase the Patriot 128GB Supersonic Rage 2 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SNLGXE0/). Copying that same 10.12GB file with the Patriot took 31s. 31 seconds! That's ~326 MBps. Literally 37 minutes faster for that one file. It would take under 6.5 minutes to fill up the same 128GB drive with similarly large files. Read speads on the Patriot seem to be about the same as the write speeds.
I know it's not comparing apples to apples: this drive is USB 2.0 and the Patriot is USB 3.0. The Patriot is also a higher pricepoint than the PNY here. But if you have USB 3.0 capability, and can 35%-60% (depending on the prices at the time) more, get another drive. You will save an incredible amount of time and frustration.
