UPDATE: After a couple of months it simply failed. Windows says "the drive needs to be formatted" and when I try to do that - it says "the device is in read only mode".

Attempts to revive it using various tools in Linux failed too - the device is accessible in read-only mode (but there is no physical switch on it to make it writable).

The strange part is that I have barely used it since I bought it. My data are gone and I cannot even reformat the drive. I was able to recover some JPEGs with photorec (a file-carving program), but that's about it.

I am disappointed. The drive came with a 2 year warranty, I will try to leverage that and come back with an update of how things went.

I chose this one because it has a good price/performance ratio. My primary use case is to attach it to a router with DD-WRT and use it as a storage medium for downloaded torrents and a file server.

Though I could attach a hard drive of a much larger capacity, I wanted something that
- does not have moving parts
- does not require another power socket
- is silent

This flash disk meets all of my demands.

While other reviewers complained that the device stopped working shortly - I do not have the same experience yet, but I will post updates to this review if anything goes wrong. The flash drive comes with a warranty, I hope I won't need it ;-)

So I recently received the Silicon Power 128GB Blaze B30 USB 3.0 Swivel Flash Drive and was very hasty to try it. The reason I bought it was that my main and back up HDDs had died on me, still had system ssd working but estimated delivery for a new hhd was to much time and I'm an International Buyer so still bought one but wanted a more immediate option. researched and came up to an alternate solution (this flash drive).

What did I want it for?
1) Have an executable windows as a backup for my desktop in case of a crash, to run from flash drive. *not installation a working os, although u can do both.
2) An portable vessel for my mmorpg game which is like 30Gbs that now I can free from my desktop, laptop and work computer (don't tell my boss) so basically made my game portable and saved some space on my pcs.
3) A viable ready boost option

When it came it was in exfat format and had a warranty product key file inside. First thing I did was run a benchmark and was dissapointed to see it was reading at 40mbs and writing at 39 not what I expected. So continued to changing format to NTFS since I had read from other reviews this solved their issue, and since I wanted to run windows from it had to do it anyway, did so ran benchmark again with same result :(

I was ready to make a formal complaint to sp cause it was not what I expected, this was my cheap solution to not buy an ssd and make it portable and those speeds were killing it.

Before filling a complaint I decided assure myself those speeds where accurate and not on my side, tried transfering some files and noticed that read speed was actually fast, transfered a 1gb file to desktop from usb 4 times and transfer speed was so fast it didn't even open transfer window, so hmm what was happening.

I tried different ports and came to the following conclusion the port I was testing it originally was a motherboard 3.0 slot that I had that also had another device connected so since I had another device it was halving the speed once I set only flash drive, voila there u have it, it now benchmarked the speeds I expected, seems like the port shared, or divided the speed for as many as the number of devices on the same bus, so basically I had to disconnect the other devices so that it alone could make use of the total bus, don't know if its a physical limitation of the motherboard or a driver issue, but honestly don't care my flash drive was doing what I bought it to do.

So I was now happy, attached benchmark and pc ports picture to hope it can help u understand more or less what I meant I'm just a regular Joe so hope this review can help others like me, not so avidly tech aware and prevent u from bagging it as trash needlessly.

So IMO great value for the money and works like a champ, final bench mark speed read/write data 187mbs/90mbs, I will update review if it fails on me before its first year, time by which I feel it will have paid its price.

I bought this product back in 2014, and forgot to do an initial review purely because I didn't use it a lot until now. I have been using it for 2 semesters now, and it is primarily used to backup my sandisk flash drive. After unplugging it from the school computer it no longer works, I have lost all of my programs for school, because for this semester I decided to switch to this as my primary drive for my large programs. I am in the process of trying to recover the drive, but I'm not expecting it to be successful. I am going to try to get it replaced under warranty, but that still won't replace the data I lost. This was a tough lesson, but I guess I'll have to backup my backup from now on. This drive isn't bad, but it is my first one to fail, and I own quite a lot. The speed were comparable to my other 3.0 drives. I know drives fail, but with the small amount of use that this drive has on it, the failure was unexpected.

Well after less than 8 months my USB flash drive stopped working. First thing that happened was that it become "Write-protected". I couldn't do anything with i.e. transfer, delete, copy, etc. Even formatting was impossible. I contacted Silicone Power and they told me to download there USB recovery tool [...]which I guess worked too well because not only did it remove the write-protection but it completely deleted everything off the flash drive to the point where no computer recognizes the flash drive when I plug it in. Anyways, It worked well until that darn write-protection happened. Needless to say I lost all my files (pictures, videos, homework, music, etc). I went to the Silicone Power website and saw that the the Blaze B30 has a lifetime warranty. I don't want to bash it too much but when you lose almost 100gb of data it's hard not too! Buyer beware...don't use a flash drive as a backup storage device!

SLOW transfer speed! Nice pocket drive.

Every other drive I have copies twice as fast. If it was up to the other drives on copy speed, it would be five stars but having to wait so much longer is a bit frustrating at times.

UPDATE: I named my drive so I can tell if my PC recognizes it or not. I simply named it Pocket Files as a drive nickname.... when it doesn't recognize it, it comes up Removable Disk and looks blank... at that point I wipe the tip of it with a kleenex and plug it in again. If it gets ANY dust on the end of it, it won't recognize the files on it till I take that step!

78 days of using a couple times a day and this drive is failed. It started having random drive failures for days, requiring chkdsk and I noticed some corrupt files which prompted this. Now today it showed up first as a RAW unformatted disk and then when formatted without quick format, it came up as unformattable and now shows up as write protected. It's dead. I will not return it due to the proprietary nature of materials stored on it. Based on this experience I would not recommend this drive. While the case is cheap-looking plastic, the swivel was nice and I originally liked this drive for its speedy reads and rights and good value. But given the failure I am disappointed. Thank goodness for backups.

Fast, but it will melt your hands!
The speeds are pretty fast, compared to all the 8GB ones I have. I think, anything cheap will be slow. I spent more than it's asking price now back a couple years ago. (You purchased this item on October 17, 2014. Capacity: 128GB | View this order) It still... See more

It still works, but I haven't used it for over a year after I bought it. It was to be used in my car for music files... But, I was too lazy for that.

Anyways, I tested the speeds and it was fast.... Very fast actually..

But, you have to remember, if you transfer over large files, it will go fast... If you have 5000 files that is just 4GB... There are just too many small tiny files there.

The reason I gave this 2 Stars is because, when I transfer over large files, like game files.... Like Mortal Kombat X.... Which is 42-52GB (forgot which), this thing kept stoppping and giving errors... I split up the stuff I needed to copy over. The thing is, it failed on me so many times, I reformat, did another format like NTFS/FAT etc... Nothing helped.

I believe, it failed due to the heat. This thing BURNS you. The metal on this will cook an egg. So, be careful when pulling this out during copying or after it has finished. It will be very hot.... I think, my laptop or whatever stops this or the stick itself shuts down to prevent it from melting.

This is for copying files over. It doesn't have to be large, as long as it takes a few minutes, it'll heat up.
Reading from it, there's no issue. Now, I just copy large 4k movies onto it, yes, it does get hot, but it's just 1-2 files at most. Which are large, but I can get it done before it melts. I have it in my TV, no issue watching the 4K content or 3D movies. No heating issues either, but then again, I didn't pay attention, I am only assuming it will not get hot from read.
